Autism (ASD) Assessment

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that can affect communication, social understanding, sensory processing, routines, and the way a person experiences the world. In adults, it may present as differences in social interaction, strong preferences for routine, intense interests, sensory sensitivities, or feeling exhausted by social situations.

The way how I assess ASD is through a general psychiatric assessment with focus on ASD, not just a screening appointment. The aim is to understand your experiences, developmental history, current functioning, and any other factors that may help explain your difficulties or strengths.

Assessment usually takes more than one appointment, often up to three 50-minute sessions. This allows time to explore your developmental background, social and communication patterns, sensory experiences, daily functioning, and any mental health or medical issues that may also be relevant.

If appropriate, ASD rating scales may be used as part of the assessment.

An assessment does not always lead to an ASD diagnosis, and it does not guarantee any specific treatment or support recommendation. If ASD is identified, management options are discussed in the context of the full clinical picture and may include psychological strategies, practical supports, and other recommendations tailored to your needs.

*Please note that the assessment/consultation fees do not include a formal report. If a report is required, an additional fee applies.
